DESCRIPTION

TablEdit^TM for Mountain Dulcimer.  Learn how to use this inexpensive music notation/tablature program.  Bring your laptop and, before you come, download the “free demo” version from their web site (www.tabledit.com) – If you don’t have a laptop,  you can participate by watching instructions on a video projector.

Lots of great tips to make the beginning player great right away.  Basic tunes and simple backup chords will help you jam!

Classical Repertoire.  Starting with simple finger picking or strumming arrangements, and more complex approaches, we’ll learn a variety of familiar classical pieces.

Songs From the Carter Family Era.  Old timey songs that are fun and easy to sing and play in DAD.  Help keep these old tunes alive.

Playing the Baritone Dulcimer in D.  Use the ADA tuning on the baritone dulcimer to learn to not only join the jam, but enhance it by adding a low voice to the mix.

Arranging For Clubs.  Using well-known tunes, we’ll learn how to create parts that are interesting and fun for everyone, no matter what their skill level.  Everyone invited!

Construct a Performance Set!  Entertain your audience, whether on stage or at the dinner table.  Come with 8–10 of your best pieces and, you’ll have a set you can perform anywhere!

Duets & More!  We’ll play two and three part arrangements as we learn how to create harmony, using both written arrangements and improvising as you play.  All new tunes! DAD

Four Equidistant Finger Picking.  Explore a number of tunes and tunings while learning to fingerpick alternating bass notes.  We’ll learn to add sustain, smoothness to your playing. 

Stepping Out. Using traditional tunes as our guide, We’ll get comfy with dulcimer layout and learn a few embellishments.

Beyond The Basics. From learning technique for better playing, to learning new tunes, you’ll discover tricks to add to your musician’s bag that will add spice to  what you already know!

Repertoire Building.  With new material from previous years, this popular class will cover fiddle tunes, hymns, waltzes, duets,  wedding tunes, and Christmas tunes.

Chord Patterns.  We’ll learn how to use chord patterns to play back up for singing or ensembles.

Work will focus on melody picking techniques, from simple familiar tunes to fiddle tunes and more!

Frailin’ or Claw Hammer style banjo playing will be explored, including hand positions, strumming rhythm, and tunes.  Learn the tricks to play easily. 

We’ll explore this wonderful instrument and learn how to improve tone, control the bow and play a variety of tunes.

If you can play a few chords you can learn to back up your voice or others.  Lots of great songs!
